Award-winning expert witness Maggie Sargent to headline our 2026 Costs Law Conference

AWARD-WINNING expert witness and brain injury specialist Maggie Sargent has agreed to be the headline speaker at our 2026 Costs Law Conference in Newcastle later this year.

One of the most respected figures in UK medico-legal practice, Maggie has dedicated almost 40 years to shaping how expert witness evidence is prepared, presented and trusted in courts and negotiations, both in the UK and internationally.

Maggie originally qualified as a Registered General Nurse and enjoyed a clinical career, before founding Maggie Sargent & Associates in 1986, after recognising a critical gap in the quality of expert witness provision available to personal injury and clinical negligence solicitors.

Trusted throughout the UK, the practice has grown into one of the UK’s leading medico-legal expert witness organisations, boasting a panel of over 120 clinicians in 80 specialisms. Maggie’s dedication was rewarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Personal Injury Awards in 2017, whilst the practice was named Medico-Legal Provider of the Year at the Corporate INTL Global Awards 2025.

Having helped to deliver life-changing outcomes for countless clients, Maggie will share her invaluable insights into writing CPR Part 35 compliant reports on the cost of care for people with brain injuries and complex clinical needs at our Costs Law Conference in Newcastle, on October 15.

Honoured to welcome such a respected figure, Managing Director Lee Carter said: “Maggie’s distinguished career has been defined by her compassion, meticulous standards and unwavering belief that everyone deserves access to the highest-quality medical care.

“She is widely recognised as one of the leading experts in the field, and we are delighted to have secured her involvement for our Costs Conference this year.

“Having worked alongside many of the country’s foremost personal injury and clinical negligence solicitors, she will bring invaluable insight to all those in attendance. We look forward to welcoming her and benefiting from her expertise.”

The line-up of speakers will also include our Managing Director Jon-Paul Burnett and in-house Costs guru Sean Linley, who will discuss the latest issues affecting Cost Budgeting and Fixed Recoverable Costs. Another guest speaker is expected to join the line-up closer to the date.

Tickets for this year’s Conference are priced £75 + VAT, which includes welcome drinks on arrival and a free bar afterwards. All surplus funds will be donated to the Child Brain Injury Trust, the UK’s leading charity for children with a brain injury, who support families on the road to recovery.
