Known for building close and trusted relationships, Matt has over 21 years of experience in the legal costs industry and boasts extensive expertise in case management, costs budgeting and negotiations.
He always ensures clients feel supported and confident throughout the litigation process, and is particularly passionate about advocacy, where he thrives on representing clients in court, engaging directly with judges and delivering strong, effective arguments.
Originally from Wiltshire, Matt now lives in Exeter with his wife and their two children. Outside of work, he enjoys spending quality time with his family, including days out and supporting his son’s football team.
What are your main interests or hobbies?
I do like to be very active and regularly run 5km or 10km – I’ve also completed a few half marathons. I also enjoy walking along the Devon coast, and have previously climbed Mount Snowdon. I love watching basketball and I’m a dedicated follower of the Boston Celtics.
What music do you like – any specific genre or artists?
I love Oasis and the Stone Roses, both of whom I’ve seen live a number of times. I also love most stuff from the 80s – including The Smiths, Pet Shop Boys and Duran Duran.
What’s your favourite food?
My go-to order in a restaurant is probably a rare fillet steak with chunky chips and a bit of mustard.
What TV show, film or boxset would you recommend to others?
My all-time favourite movie is Goodfellas, narrowly pipping Stand By Me, which I’ve loved since being a child. TV wise, I love The Wire, a drama that explores the drugs trade and its impact on America’s government, schools, media and daily life.
Do you have a favourite book and why?
I love to read non-fiction and biographies of famous sports stars from the 80s and 90s, but my favourite book is between Animal Farm by George Orwell or To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
Do you have a favourite holiday destination or place you’d love to visit?
Before we had a family, me and my wife travelled extensively and I loved driving around America, particularly California and Michigan, where I managed to watch a lot of live basketball.
Do you have a favourite podcast?
As someone who is into basketball and American sports, I love listening to the Bill Simmons podcast and The Hoop Collective.
What smartphone App could you not live without?
WhatsApp – a great way to stay in touch and find out what’s going on with family and friends.
Who would you most like to meet and why?
John Barnes – he was my idol growing up as a Liverpool fan and I worshipped him, such a great player.
How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
Methodical, confident, a good communicator, friendly and forthright.

Say yes to more things, you never know where it might lead.
