Highly-respected barristers set to speak at our Legal Costs Update in Manchester

TWO vastly-experienced barristers from one of the country’s leading chambers will headline our first Legal Costs Update of the year when it takes place in Manchester in March.

Gerard McDermott KC and Barrister Nicholas Truelove, both of Kings Chambers, have been confirmed as the keynote speakers for the event, which is being held at our Bruntwood Bloc office complex on Thursday, March 5.

Focusing on the latest costs developments affecting complex litigation in high-value personal injury and clinical negligence claims, it promises to be another great opportunity for insight and practical discussion. Our own in-house legal costs guru Sean Linley is also on the line-up of speakers.

Called to the Bar in 1978 and appointed silk in 1999, Gerard McDermott KC is one of the most sought-after personal injury silks in England and Wales. He is consistently ranked at the top of the leading legal directories and is best known for his work in catastrophic injury and the most serious clinical negligence claims.

A former leader of the European Circuit who has a long-standing involvement with the American Bar Association, Gerard’s discussion will centre around ‘Managing a catastrophic injury claim’ and his advice for the best practices to follow.

Called to the Bar in 2013, Nicholas Truelove specialises in clinical negligence and serious injury work, acting predominantly for claimants across England and Wales. He is regularly instructed in high-profile and complex cases, including claims involving brain and spinal injuries, fertility issues and significant psychiatric harm.

His recent work has included representing families following deaths linked to the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, and his discussion is entitled ‘Expert Permissions & How to get them’.

Mike Dyer, head of our Manchester office, will chair the session and is thrilled to be bringing together such a distinguished panel of speakers.

Looking forward to the event, Mike said: “We are delighted to have secured Gerard and Nicholas, and their combined experience will bring real depth to the discussion around current issues surrounding cases and costs.

“With practitioners continuing to navigate significant changes in the costs landscape, we hope this event will offer practical and expert insight. We are expecting a lot of interest from solicitors across the Manchester region and we’re looking forward to meeting them.”
