Stephen Regnauld - Costs Draftsperson

An experienced Law Costs Draftsman, Stephen is used to dealing with high-value costs claims - from initial assessment to negotiation, the drafting of pleadings and attendance at Detailed Assessment hearings.

Having gained a Maths degree from Aberystwyth University, Stephen started his law career with a five-year spell as a Personal Injury Claims Handler. Having switched to Costs in 2007, he gained invaluable knowledge at a national firm which specialises in minimising the legal costs faced by insurers and the Government.

Since joining us at the start of 2024, he has proven to be a great negotiator with superb mathematical ability and an inquisitive, analytical mind.

Away from work
Born and raised in Newcastle Under Lyme, Stephen now lives in the Staffordshire market town with his wife and two young daughters. He is a season ticket holder at Port Vale and went to his first match aged four.

Stephen is also a talented acoustic guitarist who used to sing and write songs for a band called The Ravens in the early 00’s. Before becoming a father, he also spent six years running a very popular acoustic open mic night at a local pub.

What are your main interests or hobbies?
I’m football crazy and love going to watch Port Vale when they play at home. I used to go to the away games too but stopped when my wife and I started a family. I also enjoy going on family days out and making fun memories with my two girls.

What music do you like – any specific genre or artists?
Although my days of playing in a band are well behind me, I do still like the groups who influenced me back in the 90s and 00s, like Ocean Colour Scene and Oasis, who I went to see twice at Knebworth. I also enjoy quite a few acoustic artists, particularly the American indie rock band Bright Eyes.

What’s your favourite food?
I do like to cook and have invested in a waterproof Ninja Outdoor Grill so that I can smoke meat and BBQ at any time of the year. My favourite food is either a toss up between Carpaccio, thin slices of raw steak served with a sauce, or a big mixed kebab with salad and all the sides.

What film or boxset would you recommend to others?
I don’t mind admitting that I’m a massive Star Wars fan and I love to watch the movies and all of the spin-offs.

How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
Organised, Analytical, Precise, Resolute and Friendly.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t worry as much. Even when there’s nothing to be worried about, I seem to find something!
