Lee Carter - Director

Lee joined Carter Burnett as a Director in August 2018, having first teamed up with founder Jon-Paul Burnett at Pryers Solicitors in 2013, where they gained vital experience dealing with Legal Costs in complex Clinical Negligence litigation. The pair also worked together at Connect Costs and Pure Legal Costs Consultants.

Lee’s legal career began in 2005, following the completion of his Business Management with Law degree, when he worked at a personal injury firm before going on to specialise as an in-house Costs Draftsman.

What drives you to achieve great results for clients?
Myself and everyone at Carter Burnett are driven by the desire to always achieve great results so that our clients’ hard work does not get undervalued when a case is settled. I fully appreciate the hard work that our clients do and we try to replicate this when it comes to the costs being decided.

What's the best thing about Carter Burnett?
All of our team are knowledgeable and hungry to develop as lawyers, which is important to me because the industry is very complicated and always changing. We also have a great atmosphere in the office and enjoy spending time with each other socially.

What is your ultimate career ambition?
I’m very proud to be a director of Carter Burnett and we’re thrilled to be growing into a company which is passionate about providing quality legal costs advice. If we continue to grow and maintain those standards, myself and Jon-Paul will be very fulfilled.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I live with my wife Laura and my two sons, Edward and George, who keep me busy because I manage and coach their football teams.

When I’m not spending time with my family, I like to roll back the years and pull on my football boots for Hornsea Town in the veterans’ league.

I also enjoy visiting new places on holiday – which probably stems from the fact I spent a lot of time travelling and living abroad, including spells in the USA and Marbella, whilst studying at University.

What music do you like?
I really like 90s indie music and I usually have Rolling Stones on my playlist.

What film or boxset would you recommend to others?
One of my favourite films is Rounders with Matt Damon. I also like most comedies with Ricky Gervais.

Do you have a favourite book and why?
I actually like to read John Grisham books – and I’ve enjoyed reading the Firm a number of times.

What’s your favourite food?
Any sort of Italian pasta dish, but I’m not too fussy and I will eat almost any food.

How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
Kind, hard-working, competitive, ambitious and funny - or should that be hilarious!?

What are your pet hates?
Unsubstantiated arguments.

Who would you most like to meet and why?
Gazza. He was my idol growing up.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?
Study, study and study.
