Laura Crookes - Costs Lawyer

Fast approaching 15 years in the legal industry, Laura is a proven Costs professional with vast experience of negotiating settlements in high-value and complex personal injury and clinical negligence cases.

Laura began her law career in the Costs department at Leeds City Council in 2012 after completing the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) having graduated with a Law Degree from the University of Hull in 2011. Since 2014, she has played a key role in specialist Costs firms and is well placed to advise clients on ways to enhance recovery.

Based in Pontefract, the busy mum of two is often found taking her daughters, Maisie (7) and Mollie (4) to various clubs and activities – and they love going on days out as a family. When she gets time to herself, Laura enjoys staying active by hitting the gym and jumping on a spinning bike. On Saturday mornings, she coaches swimming – continuing her lifelong passion at the same club her daughters now attend.

What music do you like – any specific genre or artists?
I’m a massive fan of musical theatre and love listening to any songs from West End shows – especially Six which has some very catchy numbers. Zach Bryan is one of my favourite artists and his albums are often on repeat.

What’s your favourite food?
A nice chicken and mushroom Rissotto with a creamy sauce – accompanied by a glass of cold white wine.

What’s your favourite holiday destination?
Bora Bora was idyllic for our honeymoon. It’s a beautiful tropical island with postcard perfect views.

What film or boxset would you recommend to others?
I don’t watch many films but I do love a crime drama. I would definitely recommend MobLand or The City Is Ours which are all about the criminal underworld.

Which smartphone App could you not live without?
I must admit that I do like watching Reels on Instagram – it’s so addictive!

How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
Organised, determined, reliable, approachable and hard working.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?
Take more risks and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.
