Chris Donnell - Senior Costs Lawyer
An experienced Costs Lawyer with 17 years’ industry service under his belt, Chris deals with all aspects of bill drafting and costs budgeting, specialising in high-value Claimant Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury costs.
Having started his Costs career in Legal Aid work, he qualified as a Costs Lawyer in 2011 and has since gained a wealth of experience in receiving party costs law.
Chris previously worked for Burnetts Solicitors and West Lakes Legal Costs in Cumbria, before joining Carter Burnett in January 2022, where he works from our Newcastle office.

What's the best thing about working at Carter Burnett?
The team and work atmosphere – there’s a great sense of working together to achieve the best outcome for our clients. I think that this shows in the work we produce. Everyone has a great deal of knowledge and we all get a great deal of satisfaction from a job well done.
What are your main interests or hobbies?
My two young children and Maltese dog, Bella and Cockerpoo, Olive keep me very busy but I do love football - watching and playing (five-a-sides given my veteran status). I’m also an avid supporter of my local football team Carlisle United. When I’m not spending time with the family, I like to visit the gym or binge-watch a good TV series.
How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
Kind, studious, caring, friendly and helpful.
What’s your favourite food?
Moussaka – I got addicted to it when visiting Greece but just can’t find a decent one back in England.
Which smartphone App could you not live without?
Most definitely WhatsApp, especially given the recent impact of the Covid pandemic. It’s been essential to keep in touch with friends and family.
If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?
Stop worrying about things which you have no control over and enjoy life, you only get one.
