Caroline Walmsley - Costs Draftsperson
Caroline has gained more than 20 years’ experience in the legal industry, working both as a practicing solicitor and as a costs draftsman.
She first worked with founder Jon-Paul at a legal costs firm back in 2002, gaining a broad range of expertise in family case law, clinical negligence and personal injury claims.
Caroline’s law career actually began after gaining an LLB with honours from Nottingham University, followed by her Solicitors’ Qualifying Exams in Chester. She then joined a large law firm in Manchester to work as a solicitor, before specialising in high-value matrimonial litigation.

What unique skills do you offer to clients?
Having worked as a solicitor myself, I understand the hard work and effort that goes into running a case, which can sometimes be hard to fully record. My speciality is accurately ensuring that all the time spent on the case is fully reflected in the Bill of Costs.
What drives you to achieve great results?
Bringing a claim to a successful conclusion is far from easy and the outcome is highly-important to the client. For me, it is important that this is recognised in the Bill of Costs.
What's the best thing about working at Carter Burnett?
The Nespresso machine! It’s also a really friendly and supportive team, who are willing to help each other so that you can achieve your full potential.
Who do you like to do in your spare time?
I live with my husband and three daughters and have a number of hobbies - running a book group, playing the piano and I enjoy learning to speak Italian.
Do you have a favourite book and why?
Emma – I love Jane Austen.
What music do you like?
Anything classical and jazz.
What are your pet hates?
Tractors on the road when I’m trying to get to work!
If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t take life too seriously!
