PROMISING young bi-athlete Ben Towse will bid to retain his regional titles buoyed by our backing after agreeing a sponsorship deal for his specialist kit.

An exciting prospect in the swimming pool and on the track, the Beverley Grammar School pupil is the current Yorkshire 50m Freestyle champion, the Yorkshire Biathlon champion and finished as a silver medallist at the British Biathlon Championships.

To keep him on track for more success, we will be providing the funds for his training equipment – and hope it will help him to thrive when competing in the Yorkshire and National Championships later this year.

Ben is a member of Kingston Upon Hull Swimming Club and currently trains five times a week, at Ennerdale and Woodford swimming pools in Hull, which means his kit wears out quickly. The initial sponsorship deal will be used to acquire a wish-list of specialist equipment – including running spikes, swimming fins, racing ‘Jammer’ trunks and goggles.

Ben’s mum, Karen, is thrilled to have secured our backing and believes it can only have a positive impact on her son’s performance.

She said: “The funding is a real lifeline because Ben is competing in a sport where the equipment is not cheap and you get left behind performance-wise if you don’t have it, because everyone else does.

“Ben is extremely committed to his training and wakes up at 4am most days to get there on time. He trains for two hours per session and is very mature in his approach because he knows he is performing at a very high level.

“He wants to push himself to go as far as he can and it’s great that he is being backed by a local company which values sport and the positive impact it can have on young person’s life.”

Commenting on the sponsorship, Director Lee Carter said: “Ben is built for speed. He is one of the fastest swimmers in Yorkshire and could be a potential Olympian. We are thrilled to be backing such a promising young talent and hope it will help Ben to achieve his short-term ambitions and long-term dreams.”
